Every Child has a Right to Read!

Countless children across Canada struggle with their reading.  According to some studies, over 40% of Canadian elementary age students have inadequate reading skills.   Canada is one of the most diverse nations in the world, with over 20% of the population born outside of the country.  With millions of Canadian children being raised in households where English is not the spoken language, support for literacy is paramount.

Kids Read Canada champions programmes that support children with reading challenges.

Naturally good readers are phonemically aware, understand the alphabetical principle, and reach their developmental milestones in speech, language and hearing. Challenges in any one of these areas can delay, or impede, a child’s reading development. Kids Read Canada supports programmes that strengthen language literacy and proficiency in primary and secondary languages.
